USPS experiences computer outage
Another computer problem caused problems in a number of post offices and shut off e-mails for about two days, according to the United States Postal Service.
A Feb. 14 statement posted on the agency's website said the outage "mostly affected" administrative programs such as Internet access and e-mail programs.
"The outage was not related to a cyber-intrusion incident," the statement said. That was a reference to a recent intrusion blamed by some security officials on Chinese hackers who invaded USPS computers and got access to personnel records.
The Washington Post blamed the latest problem on the installation of new computer hardware.
News accounts said some retail operations were slowed by the outage.
