The U.S. $5.60 Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Priority Mail stamp issued March 4.

When the $5.60 Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Priority Mail stamp was rushed into service March 4 with just a couple of days’ notice, a $5.60 Priority Mail stamped envelope with the same design was also issued.

The new envelope is available through the United States Postal Service’s Stamp Fulfillment Services facility as item 211905 for a pack of five. The stamped envelope is not sold singly.

A Postal Service source has confirmed that no press sheets of the Verrazano-Narrows stamp were created for sale to collectors.

Despite the very short advance notice, the new stamps technically did make it to the first-day city — Brooklyn, N.Y. — on the day of issue, but only to the main post office at Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza postal facility.

“The District is helping to distribute a small quantity to each of the stations — there are 38 — to overcome any shortages at present,” Postal Service spokesman Roy Betts told Linn’s.

“Each station is also being asked to factor this stamp request into their regular ordering cycle.”

Betts added that local postal representatives indicated that a Priority Mail stamp is not a high-demand item for most of the stations in the Brooklyn area.
