Voting underway for AFDCS board members
By Linn’s Staff
Ballots have been mailed to members of the American First Day Cover Society to decide who will serve on four open seats of the society’s board out of the eight candidates running.
The candidates are Steven Ripley, an event and emergency coordinator from Florida; Shirley Ulling, a retired school transportation worker from California; Walter Douglas George, a retired supermarket executive from Massachusetts; Chris Calle, a professional artist who lives in Connecticut; Bobby Liao, a retired software executive from California; Lloyd de Vries a retired broadcast journalist who lives in New Jersey; Jim Tatum, a former television and film professional; and Michael Moticha, a career Army officer from California. Tatum, de Vries and Moticha are incumbents.
The four winners of the election will serve three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2026. The fifth-place finisher will immediately join the board to fill a vacancy caused by a resignation. All voting is being conducted by mail.
After the election the board will choose the chair of the board and AFDCS officers, consisting of president, executive vice president, first vice president, treasurer and recording secretary, for the next calendar year.
The AFDCS elects four people to serve on its board of directors each year. American First Day Cover Society directors are not compensated for serving on the board.
More information about the American First Day Cover Society is available online at www.afdcs.net or by writing the AFDCS at Post Office Box 57, Somerset, WI 54025-0057.
