Woodstock offers new Hendrix postmark
The revised Jimi Hendrix postmark from Woodstock, N.Y.
The Woodstock, N.Y., post office is again offering a March 14 Jimi Hendrix postmark, but this time with a different design.
A pictorial postmark showing the musician playing his guitar was offered previously, but because rights to use that illustration were not secured, the postmark was withdrawn.
That original postmark was featured in Linn’s April 14 Postmark Pursuit column.
The new design uses an approved postmark image created by the Postal Service. The marking features Hendrix’s name and a guitar.
Requests received by the Woodstock office after the original design was pulled will be fulfilled using this new cancel.
Collectors who had their covers returned uncanceled can resubmit their requests and will receive the revised design.
The Woodstock postmaster indicated that requests for the new design will be honored through the end of May.
Linn’s first learned of problems with the original design when covers sent with postmark requests were returned by the Woodstock post office without being canceled.
To obtain the new Jimi Hendrix cancel from Woodstock, send covers to the following address:
JIMI HENDRIX Station, Box 9998, Woodstock, NY 12498-9998, March 14.
