Belgium celebrates the 20th anniversary of Postcrossing with a sheet of five stamps issued June 16 by bpost, Belgium’s post office.

Bpost issued the five stamps on a sheet that resembles a postcard, with one stamp alone in the upper right corner and a block of four stamps on the left side. The nondenominated (€2.78) stamps cover the standard rate for letters sent to Europe. Text on the sheet is written in both Dutch and French.

Postcrossing is a worldwide postcard exchange project that brings together people from every corner of the globe through postcards. The concept involves sending postcards to random individuals around the world, and in exchange, receiving postcards back from different random people.

Those who sign up online receive addresses where they can send postcards. Members then receive postcards from other members around the world.

The website provides further details about how the postcard exchange works. The service is free, but members must pay for their own postcards and postage.

The Postcrossing website says: “The goal of this project is to allow anyone to send and receive postcards from all over the world!”

Geert Wille designed the sheet, which was printed by lithography. The sheet measures 148 millimeters by 105mm, with stamps measuring 30mm by 20mm and perforated gauge 11.5.

The sheet is available through the bpost website.
