Does Denmark have the most expensive postcard rate?

Nov 12, 2024, 10 AM
This postcard was sent Oct. 20 from Denmark to the United States at a cost of 50 kroner, approximately $7.30 in U.S. dollars. Could this be the highest postcard postage rate in the world at the moment?

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

In October two friends of mine in philately traveled to Denmark to attend the Hafnia 2024 show. I am fortunate that both Alex Haimann and Mick Zais have me on their postcard mailing list.

Shown nearby is the postcard they sent me from the show. The reverse of the card shows various methods of mail transportation used by Postnord Denmark, the postal company of the country.

The postcard was not only signed by both of them, but they also obtained the autograph of engraver Bertil S. Jorgensen, who created the design of one of the four Danish Portrait Engravings stamps issued at the show.

When I received the card, I promptly took a picture and texted my thanks to both of them for sending it. Zais responded, noting the extremely high amount of postage, approximately $7.30 in United States dollars, that was needed to pay the postcard rate.

That got me thinking. Does Denmark have the highest postcard rate in the world? Do readers know of any countries that might have an international postcard rate higher than Denmark’s?
