Guernsey Post commemorates 2024 royal visit

By Linn’s Staff
Stamps in a June 14 issue from Guernsey Post feature photographs taken during the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Guernsey on June 16, 2024.
This June 14 issue date, two days before the anniversary of the visit, coincides with the king’s birthday.
“The Royal Visit highlighted the special and historic relationship between the Channel Islands and the Crown which stretches back centuries,” Guernsey Post said in a May 21 press release. “The programme included elements that showcased the communities of Guernsey, Alderney, and Sark, the islands’ unique local culture and heritage, and the Bailiwick’s commitment to supporting biodiversity, sustainability and combatting climate change.”
A stamp denominated 69 pence (the rate for letters weighing up to 100 grams sent domestically) shows the king and queen at Crown Pier in St. Peter Port, and a 92p stamp (the rate for large letters weighing up to 100 grams sent domestically) shows the two while the king addresses guests at the Les Cotils hotel in St. Peter Port.
A £1.37 stamp shows the king planting a tree at the Government House and pays the rate for letters weighing up to 100 grams sent to the United Kingdom, Jersey and Isle of Man. The £1.47 stamp pays the international rate for postcards sent to Europe and shows the couple signing the visitors’ book at Les Cotils hotel.
King Charles III stands next to Queen Camilla on the Crown Pier and holds a local brew named after him on the £1.81 stamp, which covers the international rate for postcards sent to the rest of the world. On the £1.90 stamp (the international rate for large letters weighing up to 100 grams sent to the United Kingdom, Jersey and Isle of Man), the couple can be seen walking on the Crown Pier.
A souvenir sheet included with the issue contains two £2 stamps and shows a photograph of the king and queen taken while the king presided over a special sitting of the States of Deliberation (the parliament and government of Guernsey) held at Crown Pier.
June 16, 2024, marked the king and queen’s first trip to Guernsey since King Charles III ascended the throne. Other events from the day not pictured on the June 14 stamps included the couple’s arrival by helicopter, a 21-gun salute at the Castle Cornet, and King Charles III granting a royal title to the rare Golden Guernsey goat breed.
The June 14 stamps were designed by Bridget Yabsley and printed by Bpost by offset lithography. The stamps in the set of six measure 41.5 millimeters by 35mm, and the stamps on the souvenir sheet measure 48mm by 55.32mm. The souvenir sheet is 140mm by 98mm.
The stamps are available online from Guernsey Post or by calling philatelic customer services on +44 (0) 1481 716486.
