New piXPost app debuts

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

In an era where stamp collecting is evolving to meet a new generation of digital-savvy hobbyists, the piXPost app lands at just the right moment. This brand-new app, developed by philatelic YouTuber and Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee member Graham Beck, blends the joy of stamp collecting with the thrill of real-world discovery.

piXPost is more than just a photo-sharing tool for stamp scenes — it’s a global map of postal passion. Users can upload images of stamps taken in the wild, postboxes they’ve spotted on their travels, or thematic postcards, all pinned to an interactive world map. It’s a brilliant way to visualize where stamp images originate, what they represent, and how far the love of philately can reach.

“From the start, piXPost was shaped by the community,” says Beck. “The early testers didn’t just use the app — they helped build it, one suggestion at a time.”

The idea began when Beck started taking stamps into the real world to photograph them alongside their actual subjects — be it wildlife, architecture, or national parks. That sparked a realization: there was no dedicated digital space for collectors to share postal content tied to physical locations. What emerged is piXPost — a hybrid of geotagged collecting, gamified achievements, and social sharing that feels tailor-made for the modern collector.

One of the key inspirations behind the app is Beck’s long-running hashtag project, #ExtremePhilately, which encourages collectors to photograph stamps in the wild — positioned in front of their real-life counterparts or meaningful thematic backdrops. Whether it’s a stamp of the Grand Canyon held up against the canyon itself or a wildlife issue photographed on safari, #ExtremePhilately blends travel, storytelling, and creativity. piXPost takes that concept a step further by giving it a permanent, interactive home on a global map.

A New Kind of Collecting

piXPost brings a touch of gamification to philately. Users can earn badges and even “claim” postboxes by photographing them in person. It’s a clever twist that turns casual outings into intentional scavenger hunts.

Beck notes, “There’s something unexpectedly thrilling about turning a quiet hobby into a real-world scavenger hunt. You start by posting a few pins — then suddenly you’re chasing badges, planning detours, and rerouting your travels just to snap a photo of that one postbox or landmark you need for the map.”

This adds a new layer of interaction to the hobby, especially for younger or tech-oriented collectors. As Beck puts it, “We’re used to collecting stamps in albums — now we can collect experiences on a map.”
