New U.N. stamps promote climate action superheroes
By David Hartwig
The United Nations Postal Administration works to empower children by promoting climate action superheroes on a pane of 10 stamps to be issued Nov. 30 in two currencies.
The superheroes are on labels, while the stamps show the U.N. logo.
The five stamps arranged vertically on the left of the pane are denominated $1.50 for the post office at U.N. headquarters in New York City, and the five on the right side are denominated 1.10 francs for the U.N. post office at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
The pane is perforated down the middle, with five stamps appearing on either side of the perforations. The UNPA said that either half of the pane can be purchased individually.
Each stamp has a label attached to its right side. The label in the middle of the left column says “Climate Action Superhero,” and the label in the middle of the right column presents the same text in French.
The remaining eight labels display colorful illustrations of different climate action superheroes.
“The United Nations Climate Action Superheroes aim to educate and engage children on how to help limit global warming and take care of our environment,” the UNPA said in its bulletin for collectors, Fascination (issue No. 142).
The alliterative name of the superhero appears on each label. The superheroes illustrated on the left column of labels are named Truth Talker, Veggie Vindicator, Recycle Ranger and Green Guide.
Shown on the labels on the right side are Fashion Fixer, Water Wizard, Energy Expert and Fume Fighter.
