A new stamp from the Philippines is said to have broken the record for the longest postage stamp in the world. The Philippine post office, PHLPost, issued the 125-peso stamp in souvenir sheets of three June 12 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the First Philippine Republic.

At 200 millimeters (approximately 77/8 inches) long, the stamp is 16mm longer than the previous known record holder issued by Kyrgyzstan in 2023 (Scott 174), which shows a wide swath of Kyrgyzstan’s Chaar-Tash mountain range and commemorates the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development.

The new stamp illustrates important events in Philippine independence, starting with the declaration of Philippine independence on June 12, 1898, and ending with the capture of Emilio Aguinaldo by the American forces on March 23, 1901.

Also pictured on the stamp are contemporaneous stamps of the Filipino Revolutionary Government, including three postage issues (Scott Y1-Y3) and a registration stamp (YF1).

The Philippine issue is longer than a No. 6¾ envelope and barely fits the space provided on a page of Linn’s. The stamp would take up all but about 1½ inches of the length on a No. 10 business envelope.

PHLPost said the stamp is available to the public at the Manila Central Post Office in Manila, Philippines.
