Swiss Post issued a stamp May 8 to mark the first time that Switzerland will host the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Women’s European Championship, the main soccer competition between national teams of the UEFA.

The 1.20-franc stamp shows a Swiss soccer player scoring a goal against an opposing goalkeeper. The soccer ball in the lower right corner of the self-adhesive stamp is punched and can be removed to be affixed elsewhere.

The design incorporates the indication “Helvetia” on both the perimeter advertising boards between the field and stadium bleachers as well as spelled out in the crowd on the bleachers. The numbers indicating the 1.20fr denomination appear on the back of the goalkeeper’s jersey.

The stamp was designed by Marisa Nussbaumer and printed by Gutenberg AG.

The 16 teams in the 14th UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Women’s European Championship will compete July 2 to July 27 across eight cities: Basel, Bern, Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Thun and Sion.

The tournament will feature 31 matches. The opening match will see host nation Switzerland face Norway at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, with the final also scheduled at the same venue. Organizers anticipate a total attendance of around 700,000.

In 2025 the defending champions England return to the tournament along with the reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup champions Spain. Switzerland has never won the tournament, however the host country has won the tournament five out of the 11 times the tournament has had a fixed host.

The Women’s European Football Championship stamp is available at the WOPA+ Stamps and Coins website. Further information also is available on the Swiss Post website.
