United Nations announces its 2025 stamp program
By David Hartwig
On Nov. 5, the United Nations Postal
Administration announced its 2025 stamp program in its bulletin for collectors,
Fascination.
The program will begin Jan. 17 with a
pane of 10 stamps celebrating the Year of the Snake. The $1.65 stamps, for use
at the post office at U.N. headquarters in New York City, mark the 15th issue
in the UNPA’s Chinese Lunar Calendar series.
On March 8, International Women’s
Day, the UNPA will issue six stamps commemorating U.N. Women: 73¢ and $1.65 for
use from the post office at U.N. headquarters; 1-franc and 2.50fr for the
Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland; and €0.95 and €1.90 for the Vienna
International Center in Vienna, Austria. The stamps will be in six panes of 10
stamps each.
The 2025 program will continue April
6 with the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace issue, which
will include six sheets of six stamps denominated 73¢, $1.65, 1.20fr, 1.90fr,
€0.95 and €1.20. Three souvenir sheets will be denominated $1.65, 2.50fr and
€2.50.
The UNPA will issue a pane of three
stamps April 13 denominated $1.65, 2.50fr and €1.90 for the World Expo 2025 to
be held in Osaka, Kansai, Japan, beginning April 13, 2025, and ending six
months later on Oct. 13.
On May 2, the UNPA will issue stamps
in its Endangered Species series. This long-running series began in 1993. The
stamps will be in three panes of 16 with four designs per pane.
The Endangered Species set will
include $1.65 stamps for use at the post office at U.N. headquarters, 1.90fr
stamps for the Palais des Nations, and €1.50 stamps for the Vienna
International Center.
Following the first two issues in
2020 and 2022, a third set of three crypto souvenir sheets of one stamp each
are to be issued June 6. Crypto refers to cryptocurrency, a form of currency
that only exists digitally. The denominations for these sheets are to be
determined.
The UNPA gives the title “No Nukes”
to an Aug. 6 issue of six panes of 10 stamps. Aug. 6, 2025, marks the 80th
anniversary of the first use of nuclear weapons in warfare, when the United
States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima in 1945.
The stamps will be denominated 73¢
and $1.65 for use from the post office at U.N. headquarters, 1.20fr and 1.90fr
for the Palais des Nations, and €1.20 and €1.40 for the Vienna International
Center.
On Sept. 21, the UNPA will issue
three souvenir sheets of one stamp each for the International Day of Peace.
According to Fascination, the stamps will bear the higher denominations
of $6, 6fr and €5.
The United Nations will celebrate its
80th anniversary Oct. 24 with three sheets each containing four stamps with
denominations of $1.65, 2.50fr and €2.10, respectively.
The UNPA will continue its World
Heritage series Nov. 24 with 73¢, $1.65, 1.20fr, 1.90fr, €0.95 and €1.20 stamps
in panes of 20, as well as related prestige booklets with text and
illustrations in addition to stamps.
The 2025 U.N. program is tentative
and subject to change.
