By Linn’s Staff
Mick Zais has been appointed the government relations chair for the Boston 2026 World Expo, public relations chair Thomas Fortunato announced in an Aug. 25 press release.
Zais will plan and coordinate interactions between the United States federal government and the Boston 2026 team in an effort to facilitate the entry of philatelic material from international exhibitors and dealers into the United States, according to Fortunato.
Zais has experience with the federal government, having served as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education under Betsy DeVos from 2018 until she resigned one day after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Zais then served as acting Secretary of Education from Jan. 8, 2021, to Jan. 20, 2021, during the period between the attack and the Jan. 20 inauguration of President Joe Biden.
Before assuming the role in federal government, Zais served as president of the American Philatelic Society. He is a West Point graduate and holds a doctoral degree from the University of Washington.
He became the president of Newbury College after his retirement from the Army, and he later won an election to serve as the South Carolina superintendent of education.
Boston 2026 World Expo will take place May 23-30, 2026, at the Boston Convention and Exposition Center. Show details and instructions to sign up for email updates can be found at www.boston2026.org and via the expo’s Facebook, X and Instagram pages.
