Scott Classic Specialized eCatalogue available
The online, or eCatalogue, version of the 2015 Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue of Stamps and Covers 1840-1940 is now available for purchase. In this 21st edition of the best single-volume catalog for the classic era, almost 30,000 value changes are recorded. Of these changes, more than 15,000 are specific to the 2015 catalog.
For example, a total of 1,665 value changes were made for Italy. Pay particular attention to on-cover values; some of the increases in this category are substantial. Each of the three 1923 Fascist Oath semipostals (Scott B17-B19) is valued at $550 on cover, a $200 jump from the 2014 value of $350.
Perhaps the biggest editorial highlight concerns a famous stamp. For the first time in three decades, the unique British Guiana 1¢ Magenta (Scott 13), often called the world’s rarest stamp, is valued in the Scott catalogue. A value of $9.5 million has been assigned to the rare stamp. A footnote explains that the value is based on an auction realization achieved at a sale in New York City in June 2014.
