Full schedule planned for Chicagopex 2024

The Chicago Philatelic Society will
present its Chicagopex show Nov. 22-24 at the Westin Chicago Northwest, 400
Park Blvd., Itasca, Ill.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are
free.
The show will include a bourse (sales
area) of more than 75 dealers, plus the United States Postal Service and the
United Nations Postal Administration; an exhibition of 284 frames of philatelic
material; and a philatelic literature competition.
Chicagopex 2024 will include the
Ameristamp Expo in partnership with the American Association of Philatelic
Exhibitors.
Convening societies at the show
include the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors, Rossica Society of
Russian Philately, Scandinavian Collectors Club and Women Exhibitors.
The single-frame Champion of
Champions, selected among the best single-frame exhibits from World Series of
Philately shows held during the prior year, will be awarded.
Because Chicagopex is a World Series
of Philately show, the multiframe grand award winner will qualify to compete in
the Champion of Champions exhibition at the Great American Stamp Show in
Schaumburg, Ill., Aug. 14-17, 2025.
Chicagopex 2024 has a full schedule
of presentations and speakers.
On Friday at 11 a.m., American
Philatelic Society executive director Scott English will host a town hall
meeting. Two presentations are scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m.: Norman Andrews
of the Scandinavian Collectors Club will present “Sweden Large Official
Issues,” and Richard Judge of the British North America Philatelic Society will
present “What is a ‘Set-Off’ and how can you tell which side of the gum does it
reside?”
On Friday at 2 p.m., Steve Lund will
give the Scandinavian Collectors Club presentation, “Sweden Öre Coat-of-Arms,”
and Lynn Heidelbaugh will give the Collectors Club of Chicago presentation,
“Civil War Letters: A Family’s Collection at the National Postal Museum.” On
Friday at 3 p.m., Stephen Knapp and Peter Schwartz will present “U.S.
Experimental Stamps of the 19th Century: Studies in Design — Introducing the
Bust of Peace.”
Presentations on Saturday include:
American Topical Association presentation, “How to Get Started in Topical Stamp
Collecting,” by Jennifer Miller; Scandinavian Collectors Club presentation,
“Postal Service and Communications in Nazi-Occupied Norway, 1940-1945,” by Even
Brande; “Zeppelin Posts 100 Years Ago: U.S. Military and German,” by Bob Helms
with Cheryl Ganz; Chicago Philatelic Society presentation, “The 1932 Washington
Bicentennial Commemoratives: Ambassadors to the World,” presented by Marjory
Sente; and “ATA 75th Anniversary Celebration and Roundtable,” presented by ATA
executive director Jennifer Miller, and ATA president Dawn Hamman.
The following groups will meet at the
show: Scandinavian Collectors Club, Chicago Philatelic Society, Germany
Philatelic Society Chapter No. 5 and the Illinois Postal History Society.
The catered awards banquet will be
Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets ($75 each) must be purchased in advance.
