By Linn’s Staff
The selvage on two sheets of stamps issued Oct. 12 by Honduras contains references to the Boston 2026 World Expo, which will take place May 23-30, 2026, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Mass.
According to Thomas Fortunato, Boston 2026 public relations chair, this is the first stamp issue referencing the 2026 stamp show.
The selvage on the sheets pictures the Boston 2026 logo, and provides the show dates in English and Spanish; the Boston 2026 website address; and links to information on the Mi Oficina Philatelic Society, an online group of mainly Latin American stamp collectors.
The stamps celebrate the theme of Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (UPAEP) philately and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Philatelic Federation of the Republic of Honduras.
The 25-lempira stamp shows a post horn; flags of the 28 member countries of the UPAEP; and logos of the Philatelic Federation of the Republic of Honduras, UPAEP and the Mi Oficina Philatelic Society.
The 35-lempira stamp shows a printing press and a collector using tongs to hold a stamp under the lens of a magnifying glass.
The 25-lempira rate pays the basic international rate for letters weighing up to 20 grams sent to North America, and the 35-lempira rate pays the basic international rate for letters weighing up to 20 grams sent to Europe.
The stamps were printed by offset lithography in quantities of 250 sheets for each denomination. The sheets can be ordered by emailing filatelia@honducor.gob.hn or filateliahonduras@gmail.com.
