Spellman Museum names new executive director

By Molly Goad
The Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History in Weston, Mass., has appointed Brian Howard as executive director.
Howard enters the position with three decades of experience in the history museum field after earning his master’s degree in museum science from Texas Tech University in 1994. His early roles included curator at the Airmen Memorial Museum in Maryland and curator at the National Warplane Museum in New York.
The New York State native spent more than a decade as executive director at the Oneida County History Center in Utica, N.Y. He then moved into the same role at the North Andover Historical Society in Massachusetts.
Since December 2022, Howard has been the development and operations manager at the Albany Institute of History and Art in New York. He assumes his new position Sept. 1.
“I’m excited to be returning to the Boston area and am eager to get started,” Howard wrote on his LinkedIn profile.
Founded in 1961 to house and share the collection of Cardinal Francis Spellman, the Spellman Museum is one of two philatelic-focused museums in the United States. The nonprofit museum houses an expansive gallery, library, museum store and post office.
The museum is located at 241 Wellesley St. on the campus of Regis College in Weston.
