U.S. Northern Cardinal stamped envelope still available
Stamp Market Tips by Henry Gitner and Rick Miller
Postal stationery is an envelope, letter sheet, postal card, letter card, aerogram or wrapper with the indicium (stamp design) printed directly on it. Very recent U.S. postal stationery issues can be surprisingly hard to find once they go off sale.
Postal stationery items are not being purchased in great quantities by dealers or collectors and can be extremely elusive in the aftermarket. This is especially true of high-face-value Priority Mail envelopes, but it is true of other items as well.
On July 9, 2023, the U.S. Postal Service issued a nondenominated (66¢) Northern Cardinal forever postal stationery envelope (Scott U702). The indicium was designed by Antonio Alcala. The envelope was printed by lithography and typography.
The Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers values a mint entire at $1.75 and a used entire at 70¢.
Distribution of the Northern Cardinal envelope wasn’t great, but if you need it, you might still find it at post offices. It is also available from Stamp Fulfillment Services in Kansas City, Mo.
