Covering postal news

Apr 16, 2025, 11 AM
Linn’s editors are seeking input from readers on what type of postal news coverage they are looking for. Input could impact future editorial strategies.

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

Historically Linn’s Stamp News has had varying coverage of postal news from around the world. During the past couple of decades the quantity of postal news articles within the pages of the publication has changed. Some issues had a lot of generic postal news coverage, others just an article or two.

I recently was thinking about a few different categories regarding our coverage of postal news and would be interested in learning what type of content Linn’s readers might want to see in the future.

These are the different topics that are generic enough that may stimulate some ideas:

— Operational and service changes: looking into service delays, new services, closures, Office of the Inspector General reports.

— Labor and workforce issues: reporting on worker conditions, staffing issues, union leadership, protests.

— Financial and policy coverage: examining budget cuts, buyouts, rate changes, regulatory changes.

— Technology and modernization: exploring automation and how it is changing the mails, sustainability initiatives, digital integration.

— Human-interest and community impact: reporting on heroic acts, features on rural or interesting post offices, a behind-the-scenes look at facilities and what some individual jobs are like.

— Elections and civic function: looking into voting by mail or other services like carrying out the census.

— Global comparisons: looking at what other countries do to see what might impact how things are done in the United States.
